Sally Mitchell (NRCH Chair) speaking at the launch of My Community Exhibition

Last Sunday, the first ever ‘My Community’ exhibition, hosted by Victoria St Alive! with support from North Richmond Community Health (NRCH), wrapped up its three-week run at The Hive Shopping Centre in Abbotsford.

The exhibition featured artists from the Medically Supervised Injecting Room (MSIR) of NRCH. The art included photography, acrylic paint on canvas, and poetry composed by MSIR clients.

‘My Community’ was a unique opportunity for MSIR clients to convey their life stories through artistic expression and build self-esteem and confidence.

The exhibition launch brought together everyone from MSIR clients to the MSIR staff, to government figures, and the broader community. It was a night of smiles, celebration, and important discussions around reducing the stigmatisation of addiction and treating people who use drugs with compassion.

The exhibition has been a tremendous success, not only showcasing the unique talents of the artists, but also bridging the gap between MSIR clients and the broader community.

NRCH looks forward to supporting more MSIR exhibitions in the future!
