NAIDOC Week 2023 | For Our Elders

Jun 29, 2023Groups and Events

This Sunday 2 July marks the begining of  NAIDOC Week (2- 9 July), a celebration and recognition of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

This year’s theme is ‘For our Elders’, reflecting on the important role that First Nations Elders have played and continue to play in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. When we do an Acknowledgement of Country, we speak about ‘paying our respects to Elders past, present and future’, but how much do we know about Elders and their stories? This is an opportunity for everyone to reflect and learn more about the traditional custodians of this land and their contributions. More about the theme here.
