My Community, an exhibition by MSIR Artists

In June, Victoria Street Alive! (an initiative of Residents for Victoria Street Drug Solutions) is hosting a special art exhibition featuring artists from the Medically Supervised Injecting Room (MSIR) of North Richmond Community Health (NRCH).

The MSIR has been operating at NRCH for four years, saving lives by providing an evidence-based, compassionate response to public injecting and overdose. MSIR clients are supported to reduce drug related harm through a range of individualised onsite health and social support services.

This exhibition, entitled My Community, showcases photography, acrylic paint on canvas, and poetry composed by MSIR clients. It has provided MSIR clients with a unique opportunity to display personal creations that showcase their life stories and talent.

My Community exhibition will help reduce stigmatisation of addiction by bringing together MSIR clients and the broader community. The exhibition aims to help build self-esteem and confidence through artistic expression and it is the first public art project the MSIR has undertaken.

All of the artworks will be on sale via private auction with proceeds to go directly to the artist.

The exhibition runs from Friday 3 June to Sunday 26 June 2022 and marks the fourth anniversary of the MSIR being in operation.
