Today Thursday 18 March, North Richmond Community Health (NRCH) recognises National Close the Gap Day. A community BBQ on the corner of Lennox Street and Butler Street was held in partnership with Belgium Avenue Neighbourhood Houses.

Uncle Robbie Thorpe, Gunai man, lifelong warrior, and Richmond resident joined us to perform a smoking ceremony and Acknowledgement of Country. Our Aboriginal Health Worker Vivian Malo (Moore) also ran a Zoom presentation on the day for all our staff to raise awareness for the ongoing issues.

Close the Gap Day is an opportunity for us to come together and urge our governments to take real, measurable action to achieve Indigenous health equality by 2030. There is so much more to be done to improve the health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and to close the health gap.

Please find out more about Closing the Gap here and how you can get involved.
