Board Statement

We support all efforts of the Australian Government in evacuating vulnerable Afghans to safety.

The recent events engulfing Afghanistan may be triggering for many in our local community, especially those who arrived in Australia from a refugee, asylum seeker, and humanitarian migration background.

North Richmond Community Health (NRCH) is following events in Afghanistan with much apprehension. Our hearts go out to the millions of Afghans living through this intense period of uncertainty, and to the many thousands trying to leave the country.

The following days, weeks, and months will inform the world the direction in which Afghanistan is heading.

We support all efforts of the Australian Government in evacuating vulnerable Afghans to safety.

We call on international rule of law to be upheld, for there to be an immediate end to any form of violence, and for the fundamental human rights of all Afghans to be respected and protected, especially those of women, children, and of vulnerable groups.

We remain committed to supporting those in our community from a refugee, asylum seeker, and humanitarian migration background.

Our extensive experience over many years of working with refugees and asylum seekers from diverse backgrounds, helping them to integrate into our community, makes us confident in our ability to respond to their needs with our health and community services.

We are ready to welcome any Afghan refugees arriving in our community.
