‘Heal Country’ calls for stronger measures to recognise, protect and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage for all, now and into the future.
Today Sunday 4 July marks the beginning of NAIDOC Week.
NAIDOC Week is celebrated each year in July, this year it falls on Sunday 4 July to Sunday 11 July. NAIDOC Week is a national celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year’s theme is ‘Heal Country’. Heal Country calls for stronger measures to recognise, protect and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage for all, now and into the future.
Healing Country means embracing First Nation’s cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia’s national heritage. That the culture and values of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders are respected equally to and the cultures and values of all Australians. There is so much more to do in order to heal Country and resolve the outstanding injustices that is still ongoing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to this day.
Each year, North Richmond Community Health takes part in the celebrations of NAIDOC to acknowledge and embrace the rich heritage of Australia’s First Nation Peoples. This year, we are celebrating by hosting a Welcome to Country and BBQ breakfast at NRCH and hosting a fire at the monthly Twilight Market.
