Alcohol and Other Drugs Outreach and Community Engagement Program
The Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Outreach and Community Engagement Program is a multidisciplinary program dedicated to working with people who use drugs (PWUD). The primary purpose is to achieve the best health outcomes for PWUD and to support the community in North Richmond.
Our team consists of highly skilled, clinical and non-clinical staff, coming from a range of diverse backgrounds with a wide spectrum of experience in different sectors including:
- Registered Nurses
- Outreach Workers
- A Specialised Mental Health Worker
- A Lived Experience Worker
- A Communication and Community Engagement Specialist
Our service operates within the heart of North Richmond, focusing on the North Richmond Housing Precinct. We provide care coordination, direct support, referrals, and follow-up to people who have complex health and social needs in areas such as:
- Drug and alcohol
- Physical and mental health
- Housing and homelessness
- Legal matters
- Food and financial insecurity
Our AOD Outreach and Community Engagement Program will engage with PWUD, and community members to:
1. Provide case management for complex needs by:
- providing broader access to health and social support services through their own service model, or through providing partnerships with other local service providers
- aiming to improve the health, wellbeing, housing and social outcomes for people who engage in substance use
- aiming to prevent and reduce drug-related harm, such as overdose, and other health-related issues.
2. Provide trauma-informed outreach through:
- support programs and therapeutic interventions
- a culturally safe and appropriate framework
- promoting and supporting safer substance use through harm reduction strategies
- delivering comprehensive, holistic interventions that support long-term client and community member engagement.
3. Deliver community engagement by:
- providing a proactive, community-wide outreach response
- responding positively to health-based issues raised by community members.
- build channels of trusting communication with community leaders and stakeholders.
Contacting the Service and Making Referrals
The AOD Outreach and Community Engagement Program operates 7 days a week from 8:30 am to 9:30 pm.
Community members, including clients, local residents, business owners and professional services are welcome to call and speak to a staff member from the team.

Phone calls from the community can include:
- self-referrals from clients
- referrals from external services on behalf of a client
- input from community members who have been affected by social issues relating to PWUD in the North Richmond community.
In the event of an overdose or other medical emergency please call triple zero, do not call the AOD Outreach and Community Engagement Program.
