Today, 1 December is World AIDS Day, an annual campaign to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS, show support to those living with HIV and remember those lost to AIDS-related illness.
HIV Treatments and medications to reduce transmission of HIV have significantly improved in recent years. Early treatment is critical to preventing serious illness which is why it’s imperative we educate our community and combat misinformation. The Multicultural Health and Support Service (MHSS), a program of the Centre for Culture, Ethnicity and Health (CEH), run education sessions about HIV and AIDS. These sessions, for both health professionals and migrant and refugee communities around Victoria, provide up-to-date information about prevention, testing, treatment and supports available. Our sessions delve into how best to navigate this topic, which is especially sensitive in many communities.
