Celebrating the women in our community

March 8 2019 by North Richmond Community Health

Today marks the day we celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all around the world. It is a day to reflect on how far we have come in pushing the boundaries in order to achieve gender equality and how much more we still have to achieve. Today we call for action to “better the balance, better the world”. Today is International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day has occurred for over a century with the very first International Women’s Day gathering taking place in 1911. To this day, we continue to reflect on and acknowledge the important role we all play as women, men, non-binary and gender diverse people in taking action collectively. We all share the responsibility of breaking down stereotypes and gendered roles to create a more gender-balanced world.

North Richmond Community Health is committed to supporting women’s rights and continues to drive change towards better access to healthcare for women from culturally diverse backgrounds and rural areas.

This year’s campaign theme is ‘More Powerful Together’. To show our support for #BalanceforBetter, our staff and volunteers are sharing stories and experiences of women they know in the community who have challenged stereotypes and empowered others.

Dr. Czeslawa Ciereszko (Senior Dentist)

Dr Czeslawa Ciereszko is a senior dentist at North Richmond Community Health. She has been treating and improving the oral health of many challenging and at high-risk patients for almost 30 years. There are not enough words to describe how exceptional Dr. Czeslawa is. She is a resilient, compassionate, strong woman and a well-respected professional within our community. I feel privileged and honoured to call her my friend and colleague and to this day continue to learn from her.

– Ana Ivanovic (Dental Hygienist)

Loraine Chessells

Loraine has volunteered at North Richmond Community Health for almost 20 years. She began volunteering for Hydrotherapy sessions to heal a medical condition. Since then, Loraine has helped countless community members across several groups and projects. Loraine’s optimism, kindness and determination has inspired so many community members across Melbourne, including the staff of North Richmond Community Health.

– Francesca Chong (Marketing and Communications Manager)

International Women’s Day doesn’t end today. Although we have come a long way since more than 100 years ago, we still have so much more to achieve.
